The Great War That the Mother of God Stopped

Tai turėjo būti karas, kuris užbaigs visus karus. Kai prieš šimtą ketverius metus, 1918 m. lapkričio 11 d., Kompjeno paliaubomis Vakarų fronte baigėsi Pirmasis pasaulinis karas, amžininkų vadinamas Didžiuoju karu, atrodė, kad prasidėjo nauja era, grindžiama taikos, demokratijos, žmogaus teisių, tautų apsisprendimo teisės ir tarptautinio susitarimo principais.

Two decades after this war, this new era completely disregarded the aforementioned principles. Thus began another, even more terrible war.

Can the duration of a war be shortened by human efforts? Of course, countries can sit down at the negotiating table and achieve peace. But do they really do so of their own free will? More likely, it is due to external circumstances, exhaustion, and they are unwilling to negotiate as long as they believe in the power of arms.

Christians generally perceive war based on the assumption that everything that happens depends on Divine Providence. Today, not everyone can afford to reconcile with such a harsh reality. Knowing that God allowed it because something good can be gleaned from this situation.

The Mother of God perceived the world similarly when she appeared to the little shepherds in Fatima. In all the Fatima secrets, the Most Holy Virgin Mary reveals a conditional perspective: if not - if so:

The Second Secret of Fatima – the request to consecrate Russia

“You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace. [World War I] is coming to an end, but if people do not cease offending God, another and worse war will begin during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign given you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the reparation of Communion on the first [of the month] Saturdays. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, then she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church; the good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer. Various nations will be annihilated. But in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, which will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world. In Portugal, the dogma of faith will always be preserved, etc.”

From this perspective, it is evident that the Mother of God persuades people to convert, calls upon God's mercy, and halts the execution of justice, so that a certain divine punishment might nevertheless be withheld.

Following this logic, one can conclude that it was the Most Holy Virgin Mary who ensured the end of the Great War for the world. She most desired the conversion of poor sinners, conversion of their own free will, without punishment.

Unfortunately, as we know, man again showed terrible ingratitude. There was no conversion, and the world was destined to experience the even more terrible Second World War.

On this day, let us also remember that the Compiègne Armistice allowed the Lithuanian state to gain independence, which is also an indirect work of the Mother of God. Let us strive to be better than our predecessors a hundred years ago and do penance while it is not yet too late, while war has not yet touched our borders.

Perhaps this prayer, reaching the ears of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, will save our dear Lithuania from greater calamities.
