JD Vance to publish "Communion," a conversion memoir

Vice President JD Vance releases his book on June 16, titled "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith," a memoir centered on his 2019 conversion to Catholicism and pitched as a sequel to "Hillbilly Elegy." Raised Protestant and an atheist in his college years, Vance entered the Church in 2019 and reportedly began writing the book that same year. Coverage notes he is among many Millennials and Gen Z converts turning away from secularism specifically toward the Catholic Church. Vance has not been shy about applying Catholic thought to governance, having invoked the medieval principle of ordo amoris — a hierarchy of love prioritizing family, then neighbor, community, fellow citizens, and lastly those farther afield — to defend immigration enforcement. A senior public official treating the faith as the organizing center of his life, rather than a private hobby, is exactly the kind of unapologetic witness conservatives have long called for.
