The incident was reported on Saturday by the Respublika.lt.
As the Police Department told the portal, on September 13, at 1:57 a.m., a report was received about a Koran being burned in the street at Etmonų St. 6. The police opened a pre-trial investigation for hooliganism.
As ELTA reported, last week during Muslim community prayers at and near the Kaunas mosque, a group of bikers disrupted them.
They chanted slogans, made noise, played rock music loudly, and brought a pig's head. The bikers did not elaborate on what message they were carrying out with this action.
After the gathering, the police opened an administrative case for violation of the rules on assemblies and other events and clarification of the circumstances. According to the police, the bikers did not have a permit issued by the municipality to gather near the mosque.
Later, Kaunas County Police announced that it had opened a pre-trial investigation into this incident.
Commenting on this event, Mufti Aleksandras Beganskas told LRT radio that the action was directly aimed against Muslims. He also asked government representatives to ensure the safety of Muslims.
Commenting on this incident, the president's chief adviser, Deividas Matulionis, said that such a biker action is an unacceptable provocation that could be useful to hostile states.
In turn, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius urged avoiding further escalation of the conflict.
